Haimurubushi started operations in 1979 on Kohamajima in the Yaeyama Islands. It lies about 400 km south of the main island of Okinawa, surrounded by the largest coral reef in the northern hemisphere. Haimurubushi is the word in the Yaeyama dialect of Japanese for the Southern Cross, a constellation seen in the southern sky. Since its opening, guests have flocked to Haimurubushi to marvel at the beauty of the Yaeyama Islands and enjoy marine activities to their hearts’ content.
